Benefits of Agrol®
Renewable Content
Agrol® and Agrol Diamond® are USDA Certified Biobased Products. Agrol® has 99% renewable content, and Agrol Diamond® has 86% renewable content as tested by ASTM D 6866, the industry standard for evaluating bio/renewable content. The Agrol® polyol line can provide maximum flexibility in formulation development while allowing for the addition of significant bio-content when used as a replacement for petroleum-based polyols.
Low VOCs
Consumer products that incorporate Agrol® have earned the stringent GREENGUARD Certification for Children & Schools for indoor air quality. Agrol® has no detectable formaldehyde and an emission factor of <40 (ug/kg)/hr.
Carbon Benefit
According to an LCIA (Life Cycle Impact Analysis) conducted by Omni Tech International for the United Soybean Board, Agrol® has a carbon benefit over petroleum polyols. Five and one-half pounds of carbon dioxide equivalents are removed or prevented from entering the atmosphere for every pound of Agrol® that replaces a pound of petroleum-based polyol. See the results of this study here.
Lower Global Warming Potential
The same LCIA also showed that the production of Agrol® has a lower global warming potential than petroleum-based polyols. The process emits less formaldehyde, hydrocarbons, methane and nitrous oxide into the atmosphere.
Fossil Fuel and Energy Usage
According to the LCIA, it takes less fossil fuel to produce a pound of Agrol® versus a pound of petroleum-based polyol. Also, the manufacturing process takes less energy (both primary energy and fuel energy) to produce a pound of Agrol® versus a pound of petroleum-based polyol.
Additional Benefits of Agrol® Include:
• Very low odor
• Low acid (≤ 0.1%) and long shelf life (180-360 days depending on the product)
• Extreme hydrolytic stability
• Wide range of functionalities (from approximately 2.0 to 7.0)
• Allows for tailoring the physical property performance of the end product
• Competitive in price to petroleum-based polyols
